Senior Logistics Specialist - Montreal (QC)

We are currently searching for a dynamic Senior Logistics Specialist to join our Montreal office.  Reporting to the General Manager – Logistics Solutions, the incumbent ensures the effective operation of the Oceanex Global Logistics (3PL) division.  He / she will lead communications with various transportation partners and clients to coordinate and organize all shipments in order to provide satisfactory execution of transportation services.  His/ her main responsibilities will also include rate negotiations, diverse pricing, develop strategic solutions and various operational and administrative tasks.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Respond to rate requests, offer pricing to clients and/or sales department;
• Participate in client tenders;
• Selection and set up of reliable partners; negotiate pricing with them;
• Assist in the elaboration of strategies in relation to requirements and related costs;
• Suggest solutions to respond to clients’ needs in order to secure bid and/or shipment;
• Follow up on client rate quotations and negotiate as required;
• Ensure effective and smooth transportation services with partners by way of clear instructions on load tenders;
• Plan and follow up on shipments and equipment;
• Provide strategic solutions to operational issues such as customs and delays;
• Gather, verify and update all documents pertaining to our transportation partners in the ITS system while ensuring compliance (insurance, permits, etc.);
• Complete invoicing duties for each shipment (accounts payable) and coordinate scanning of documents onto internal system;
• Detailed verification of shippers’ invoices (accounts receivable) including communication regarding follow up and correctors;
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

• College diploma in transport logistics or other training and experience combination deemed equivalent;
• Minimum of 3 years experience in similar position and/or logistics (3PL);
• Knowledge of the North American road transportation market;
• Knowledge of road transportation and domestic and cross-border business (flatbed truck, enclosed trailer, LTL/FL, etc.);
• Knowledge of rates, cwt, cubed, pallet, linear feet, NMFC, FL per mile, domestic and cross-border varied equipment;
• Basic knowledge of transportation permits for specialized equipment;
• Bilingualism is mandatory (French and English both spoken and written).

Procurement Manager - St. John's, NL

We are currently searching for a dynamic Procurement Manager to join our St. John’s, NL office.  Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance, the chosen person will be responsible for negotiating master services agreements for the acquisition of products and services for the company and to perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend. He will also be responsible for sourcing inventory, managing suppliers, search for better deals and ensures that the purchasing policies meet Oceanex Inc. business needs and that they are followed.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Manage all purchasing activities; approve the ordering of necessary goods and services (for all Oceanex locations); finalize purchase details of orders and deliveries;
  • Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies;
  • Examine and test existing contracts; perform required analysis to identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve services and secure advantageous terms offered by current suppliers;
  • Research new suppliers for products and services and initiate business and organization partnerships; negotiate to obtain the best performance at the best price while ensuring the quality and consistency of products and services; negotiate and draft contracts with the support of Oceanex General Counsel;
  • Manage material flow to insure inventory is maintained to the optimum level to support on time customer deliveries while keeping inventory holdings at the appropriate levels;
  • Make recommendations on purchasing processes and policies; design and implement them and ensure that they are followed;
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain, Logistics or in a relevant field;
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Designation of Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) is an asset;
  • Proven experience in sourcing, supplier management and negotiation;
  • Proven experience with inventory management.

Customer Service Representative - Montreal (QC)

We are currently searching for a dynamic Customer Service Representative to join our Montreal office.  Reporting to the Customer Service Supervisor, the chosen person will be responsible to take, administer and respond to customers’ requests.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Process customers’ orders promptly and efficiently. Take customers’ bookings, by telephone, fax and electronically;
• Answer customers’ inquiries relating to availability of equipment, pick up, delivery, etc.  Provide information to customers concerning the Company’s services, i.e., sailing schedule, equipment types;
• Perform tracing of bookings as required. Investigate customers’ complaints to assist in determining service failure. Resolve issues with the help of dispatch and other departments. Communicate with road carriers to trace bookings when required;
• Scan all documents from customers pertaining to bookings.
• Redirect customers to appropriate departments relating to pricing, invoicing, etc.;
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Degree;
• Experience in customer service;
• Experience in transportation (an important asset);
• Knowledge of the AS400 system (an important asset):
• Bilingualism is mandatory (English and French).

Responsibilities

• Meet with new and existing corporate clients on a regular basis to maintain and further enhance commercial growth objectives;
• Network to develop and coordinate major project activity and ensure Oceanex’s involvement;
• Successfully negotiate in timely fashion confidential transportation contracts, general rate increases and programs in accordance with corporate objectives;

Temporary Marine Chief Engineer - Montreal (QC)

We are looking for a temporary marine Chief Engineer interested to do short term relief contracts onboard the vessels of our fleet.

Reporting to the Marine Management, the Chief Engineer is responsible for the administration of the Engine Department, for the safe, efficient and economical operation of all machinery throughout the vessel and for the maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications

  • Transport Canada First Class Motor Certification (STCW 95);
  • Vessel Personnel with Security Duties Proficiency;
  • Valid Marine Emergency Duties Certification;
  • Valid Transport Canada Medical;
  • Minimum 5 years experience as Chief Engineer;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Bilingual (English & French);
  • Excellent leadership, supervision and planning skills;
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Our vessels complete weekly runs into and out of St. John’s, NL from the ports of Halifax or Montreal and our regular rotations are 28/28.

Fleet Manager - St. John's (NL)

We are currently looking for an experienced Fleet Manager with strong strategic, technical, communication, leadership and management skills to aggressively manage our fleet of container and Ro-Ro vessels from St. John’s, Newfoundland. Reporting to the V.P. Operations, the Fleet Manager is responsible for the strategic and the day to day operational performance of the company’s ship management department, leading a team including senior shipboard managers, safety and quality management, superintendents, purchasers, Human Resources support and third party contractors.

Responsibilities

• Utilize best industry safety and environmental practices in managing the department, including the fleet, their dry-dockings, AMOS/Microsoft computer based maintenance programs, contract negotiations, our vessel construction program and scheduling, all in compliance with relevant legislation and the ISM code;

• Manage all matters related to the fleet to ensure that a safe, environmentally sensitive and cost effective operation is achieved and maintained;

• Oversee the preparation of budgets, ship management and fleet operating plans, maintenance of schedules and project management;

• Communicate and report regularly to senior management to demonstrate that the ship management department is providing the best valued solutions to support the company’s scheduled liner service.

Qualifications

• Certified as Chief Engineer or Master Mariner;

• Minimum of 5 years of senior shore-side vessel management experience;

• Relevant experience in the Ro-Ro, container and offshore industry;

• Proven decision maker and team leader with the ability to support the fundamental principles of delegation and    accountability throughout the team, managing challenges and successes in a proactive and supportive manner;

• Strong verbal communication skills to all levels within the fleet;

• Strong English written communication skills and ability to establish clear and concise reporting;

• Knowledge of French is an asset.
