Junior Engineer – Temporary - St. John's, NL

We have an opening for a Marine Junior Engineer Temporary Position. The Junior Engineer reports to the Watchkeeping Engineering Officer during engine room watches on watchkeeping matters, and to the Second Engineer for routine and maintenance matters, with the following responsibilities – though not be limited to:

  • Completing tasks or routines assigned by an Officer diligently, safely and efficiently.
  • Assisting the Engineering Officer of the watch.
  • Reporting defects or irregularities immediately.
  • Attending bunkering stations.
  • Conducting regular rounds of engine-room for verifying the levels, leaks, pressures and temperatures of different instruments in operation and instruments at a standstill for comparison purposes.
  • Assist with maintaining the engine room firefighting, lifesaving equipment, pollution prevention and personal protection systems as directed.
  • Conducting routine maintenance on machinery as required under the OOW.
  • Taking stores, operating cranes.
  • Keeping areas assigned to their charge clean and tidy.

We offer excellent work conditions, well maintained vessels, regular schedule 28/28. Qualifications

  • Canadian Marine engineer certificate, motor vessel, Class 4 (STCW-95).
  • Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties Proficiency.
  • Valid MED STCW Basic Safety
  • Valid MED Advanced Fireghting
  • Proficiency in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
  • Knowledge of English mandatory.

We are currently searching for a dynamic Office Clerk (temporary) to join the Human Resources Department at our Montreal office from May 28th to July 13th.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, this position will ensure administrative support to Human Resources Department according to established procedures. He/she will also participate in the integration of new employees into human resources systems, schedule interviews, do filing, documents scanning and mailings. He or she will order office furniture, answer the department’s phone calls and other related tasks.

Dispatcher (Student – Summer Job) - Montreal (QC)

We are currently searching for a dynamic Dispatcher (temporary) for the summer period (from May to September) for our Montreal office. Reporting to the Inland Operations Manager, the dispatcher will coordinate and control movement of trucks and drivers to and from the Bickerdike Terminal in support of shipping schedules in the most effective and efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures. The dispatcher will act as a replacement for the vacations in the Operations department.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Oversee customer booking data in order to provide accurate information to the Drivers;
• Monitor and control movement of all carriers to ensure compliance with schedules;
• Coordinate and plan movements of all drivers and carriers to ensure compliance with schedules;
• Ensure equipment availability and interact with the Customer Service Department;
• Provide Pricing Department with required data to establish the rates, as needed;
• Monitor and control movements;
• Interact weekly with Accounts Payable Department on brokers’ charges;
• Respond daily to requirements from Compliance Service;
• Be on duty one quarter of the time, nights and week-ends;
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Dispatcher - St. John's (NL)

We are currently searching for a Dispatcher for our Terminal located in St. John’s. Reporting to the Inland Operations Manager, the dispatcher works in a team environment on a shift schedule and is responsible for coordinating all moves within eastern NL, ensuring on-time delivery while achieving customer satisfaction.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Schedule loads based on safety, customer service and load efficiency from the customer information received;
• Maintain and update dispatch system to ensure accuracy of arrival and departures times;
• Create, communicate, schedule and maintain the drivers schedule;
• Proactively plan for contingencies in order to prevent service failure;
• Pre-dispatch drivers for early morning deliveries;
• Assist in ensuring equipment scheduled for maintenance is brought to the appropriate garage for repairs;

Marine Superintendent - St. John's (NL)

We are currently searching for a second dynamic Marine Superintendent with strong technical, communication, leadership and management skills to oversee and manage all technical operations of our fleet of container and Ro-Ro vessels from St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Reporting to the Fleet Manager, this position is responsible for the daily operational readiness of our fleet of vessels. The successful candidate will assist with policy formulation and implementation and provide hands-on direction to line personnel on technical issues.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all technical operations of the Oceanex marine fleet;
• Ensure that Container and Ro-Ro vessels are maintained in the most effective and efficient manner;
• Ensure fleet compliance with respect to Classification, Flag State, environmental regulations and safety standards;
• Actively monitor vessel operations, assess performance against standards and recommend corrective action, as required;
• Prepare dry-dock specifications and actively supervise all dry-dock operations;
• Manage budget development process and ongoing cost control;
• Liaise with vendors, classification society and relevant regulatory bodies as required;
• Communicate regularly with shipboard Vessel Management Team members;
• Take an active role in vessel replacement and procurement projects;
• Manage department staff including Captains, Chief Engineers, Marine Safety Manager, Assistant Fleet Superintendent and Purchaser;
• Work in partnership with other department managers within Vessel Management and Operations;
• Attend fleet vessels regularly (travel required).

Qualifications

• Certified Marine Chief Engineer with minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as Chief Engineer;
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as Marine Superintendent or Superintendent;
• Strong knowledge of Safety Management Systems  with demonstrated past experience in a safety driven environment;
• ISM Certification is an asset;
• Strong organizational and priority management skills;
• Excellent decision making skills;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Computer literate (including ship management systems AMOS);
• Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.

This is a shore-based position but does require the flexibility to travel.

NL Inlands Trucking Supervisor - St. John's (NL)

We are currently searching for a dynamic NL Inlands Trucking Supervisor.  This position is responsible for monitoring all daily trucking activities within the NL operations including the supervision of all unionized drivers and all outside carriers.  He/she is also responsible for establishing the drivers’ work schedules and monitoring to ensure company compliance and compliance with all Municipal, Provincial and Federal regulations.  The NL Inlands Trucking Supervisor works closely with the NL Dispatch Supervisor to ensure that all deliveries are completed in a timely and cost effective manner.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Act as front line supervisor for all unionized company drivers and all outside carriers;
• Create and monitor all drivers’ and brokers’ schedules;
• Ensure that all maintenance on company owned units is completed and performed in a cost effective manner;
• Ensure compliance in the areas of equipment per-trip inspections, container inspections and hours of service;
• Respond to all trucking related accidents/incidents and hazards at customers sites and delivery locations;
• Assist the Commercial Group with delivery planning and logistics related inquiries as they pertain to specific trucking needs;
• Inspect customer sites to ensure that deliveries can be made without incidents;
• Assist the Claims and Safety Departments during trucking related investigations;
• Work closely with the NL Dispatch Supervisor to ensure that all equipment maintenance is completed;
• Perform vehicle inspections and complete weekly ride along to ensure drivers’ compliance with all company, Municipal, Provincial and Federal regulations;
• Conduct all drivers’ orientation;
• Ensure that all drivers are trained and are using the Mobile Dispatch System;
• Responsible for ensuring that all permits for over dimensional loads are received as required;
• Perform tool box talks with drivers;
• Ensure that all paperwork is correct and work closely with the NL Dispatch Supervisor to ensure that all drivers are compliant with their paperwork;
• Responsible for ordering all Trucking supplies;
• Monitor and assist the Inland Manager to ensure that company is compliant with all Transportation regulations and the Canada Labour Code;
• Ensure that all deliveries are performed in a timely and cost-efficient manner while promoting the highest levels of customer satisfaction and on time performance;
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications & skills

• Minimum of 5 years experience in inland transportation or equivalent combination of education and work experience;
• Valid Class 1 driver license;
• Computer literate;
• Management experience in a unionized environment is an asset;

General Manager, Montreal Operations - Montreal (QC)

We are currently looking for a General Manager, Montreal Operations to join our Montreal office. The General Manager oversees all aspects of Inland transportation, including Dispatch, Customer service, LTL, Bickerdike marine container terminal, 3PL Global Logistics division and Equipment management including ship scheduling input.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Responsible for contracts negotiations, including tendering, with inland carriers in achieving the following goals: best possible rate, maintain the expected service levels, control fuel surcharge, oversee the payment of their invoices and develop proactive service standards;
• Ensure departmental team meets its objectives in support of the company’s overall objectives;  review and monitor subordinates’ performance and make recommendations regarding employees’ development, promotion and salary increase; set KPIs on key operational departments except equipment control;
• Oversee, for Ontario, Quebec and Maritimes, customer service and bookings, dispatch and distribution of equipment to customers;
• Oversee all US road and rail transportation requirements;
• Manage all aspects of the LTL operations including NL;
• Responsible of the Third Party Logistics’ group (3PL);
• Manage all containers and road equipment (inventory, repairs, maintenance and replacement) including the development of new equipment and replacement orders;
• Review pricing, including system based rate assessment and adjustments;
• Manage the compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements; support and foster the highest level of commitment to safety throughout all areas of responsibility;

Manager – Credit, Invoicing and Collection - Montreal (QC)

We are currently looking for a dynamic person for the position of Manager – Credit, Invoicing and Collection for our Montreal office. The Manager – Credit, Invoicing and Collection manages the invoicing and accounts receivable functions focusing on the credit approval process, data/invoice verification, and collection of outstanding balances.  He/she coaches, trains and supervises staff under his/her responsibility.  He/she establishes appropriate policies/procedures/objectives/KPI’s in order to monitor and manage all processes within tight deadlines.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Manage/prepare applications for client credit privileges to determine the possibility of allocating lines of credit; adjust existing customer lines of credit;
• Manage the processes to ensure all data concerning invoices are accurate and complete and all invoices are prepared on a timely basis; assist with customer-specific invoicing processes and reconciliations
• Verify current shipments in order to collect freight charges (prior to the arrival of the vessel) for customers on a cash basis or without the privileges of credit; proceed with verification of booking blocks;
• Assist with collection of client accounts and detect problematic accounts and manage the collection thereof;
• Act as a contact person with colleagues of other departments and as a link between team members by communicating and documenting objectives/KPIs, and policies/procedures and recommending viable solutions for the company, as required;
• Manage all documentation required for auditing purposes;
• Control month-end closing procedures and prepare monthly reports;
• Plan and assign tasks to staff and respect priorities/deadlines;
• Supervision and training of staff, with focus on continuous improvement;

Qualifications

• College/University Degree or equivalent, with knowledge in accounting, invoicing and collection processes or equivalent combination of experience and education;

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Sales and Marketing Coordinator provides support to the Sales team across Canada as well as the Sales leadership team as required. Tasks and responsibilities
