Marine Electrician - Halifax (NS)

We are presently looking for a Marine Electrician to join the crew of the vessel Oceanex Sanderling. The Marine Electrician, reporting to the Chief Engineer, is responsible for accomplishing electrical tasks specific to the ship. He follows the instructions given by the Engineer on Watch and assists him/her as needed.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Operating the electrical plant safely and efficiently.
  • Maintaining electrical and electronic equipment (communications, GMDSS, nav aids)
  • Notifying the Chief Engineer of spare part and consumable requirements.
  • Keeping the 2nd Engineer informed of work progress.
  • Reporting defects or irregularities to the Chief or 2nd Engineer immediately.
  • Implementing the QSMS as it pertains to safe machinery and electrical operations.
  • Have knowledge of international and national regulations, codes and guidelines, Company policies, and instructions on emergency duties as it pertains to their position.

Qualifications

  • Trade with Electronics Endorsement
  • MED, STCW Basic Safety
  • Proficiency in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
  • Proficiency, Ship Personnel without Designated Security Duties
  • Marine Medical Certificate

Boarding Location: Halifax, NS

General Manager, Montreal Operations - Montreal (QC)

We are currently looking for a General Manager, Montreal Operations to join our Montreal office. The General Manager oversees all aspects of Inland transportation, including Dispatch, Customer service, LTL, Bickerdike marine container terminal, 3PL Global Logistics division and Equipment management including ship scheduling input.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Responsible for contracts negotiations, including tendering, with inland carriers in achieving the following goals: best possible rate, maintain the expected service levels, control fuel surcharge, oversee the payment of their invoices and develop proactive service standards;
• Ensure departmental team meets its objectives in support of the company’s overall objectives;  review and monitor subordinates’ performance and make recommendations regarding employees’ development, promotion and salary increase; set KPIs on key operational departments except equipment control;
• Oversee, for Ontario, Quebec and Maritimes, customer service and bookings, dispatch and distribution of equipment to customers;
• Oversee all US road and rail transportation requirements;
• Manage all aspects of the LTL operations including NL;
• Responsible of the Third Party Logistics’ group (3PL);
• Manage all containers and road equipment (inventory, repairs, maintenance and replacement) including the development of new equipment and replacement orders;
• Review pricing, including system based rate assessment and adjustments;
• Manage the compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements; support and foster the highest level of commitment to safety throughout all areas of responsibility;
• Manage various special projects as required;
• Manages interface with terminal operations more specifically on ship scheduling, vessel loading mix and coordinates empty container flow with Montreal terminal manager;
• Maintain primary operational contact with Sales & Marketing Department;
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Transportation Management or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
• 5 – 8 years related experience;
• Extensive transportation knowledge;
• Strong cost management background;
• Knowledge of MS software packages;
• Bilingualism (English and French).

Senior Credit & Collection Agent - Montreal (QC)

We are currently searching for a dynamic person for the position of Senior Credit & Collection Agent position.  This position assists the Assistant Controller in all areas pertaining to the Accounts Receivable department including month end processes.

This position is also responsible for collecting and securing payments from clients within the agreed upon terms set out between Oceanex and the client with the objective of avoiding financial risk.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Assist Credit and Collection Supervisor: opening & closing accounts; processing applications for credit privileges, establishing credit limits, adjusting current customer credit limits; and, managing the month end close process including preparing monthly account receivable reports for Corporate Controller and quarterly reconciliation of accounts receivable ledgers;
• Work closely with Rating, Invoicing, Operations and Sales Departments to ensure efficient and effective processes from booking to cash collection;
• Provide temporary relief for all aspects of Credit and Collection Supervisor’s functions;
• Assist Collection Agents in the performance of their job functions;
• Collect client accounts using all necessary tools i.e telephone, e-mail, mail or fax;
• Detect problem accounts and recover funds by using available tools; escalate problem accounts to management (Sales and Finance); advise superiors of any issues that may negatively impact the department;
• Monitor blocked booking due to credit risk;
• Verify shipments in transit for cash customers to ensure cash collection prior to release of freight;
• Perform other duties and task, as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in business or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
• 5 years of relevant experience (Transportation field an asset);
• Knowledge of AS400 (an asset);
• Intermediate skills in MS office, mainly Word and Excel;
• Bilingualism (English & French).

Marine Junior Engineer, Fourth Class - St.John's, NL

We have an opening for a Marine Junior Engineer, Fourth Class. The Junior Engineer, Fourth Class, reports to the Watchkeeping Engineering Officer during engine room watches on watchkeeping matters, and to the First Engineering Officer for routine and maintenance matters, with the following responsibilities – though not be limited to:

  • Completing tasks or routines assigned by an Officer diligently, safely and efficiently.
  • Assisting the Engineering Officer of the watch.
  • Reporting defects or irregularities immediately.
  • Attending bunkering stations.
  • Conducting regular rounds of engine-room for verifying the levels, leaks, pressures and temperatures of different instruments in operation and instruments at a standstill for comparison purposes.
  • Assist with maintaining the engine room firefighting, lifesaving equipment, pollution prevention and personal protection systems as directed.
  • Conducting routine maintenance on machinery as required under the OOW.
  • Taking stores, operating cranes.
  • Keeping areas assigned to their charge clean and tidy.

Inland Operations Manager - Montreal (QC)

We are currently looking for a dynamic person for the position of Inland Operations Manager for our Montreal office.

The Inland Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of the company’s day to day inland transportation operations for all of North America excluding Newfoundland including managing all moves to and from the terminals of Montreal and Halifax. The incumbent supervises dispatch operations, carriers and owner operators in order to provide optimal service while controlling operating costs.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Oversee the supervision of the dispatch department;
  • Ensure compliance of owner operators and carriers with Transportation regulations;
  • Ensure quality and effective service to customers, both external and internal;
  • Identify cost savings and process improvements;
  • Maximize profitability on each load moves;
  • Control Inland costs and negotiate / approve additional costs;
  • Design and implement processes and systems which are industry leading practices in order to maximize safe and cost effective operations;
  • Ensure that human and material resources are kept optimized at all times;
  • Manage road bookings, over dimensional and complex loads as needed;
  • Work closely with the 3PL division;
  • Maintain a close relationship with all departments;
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures in accordance with our systems; follow up on the procedures established for the AS/400 functions and ensure that the data entered is appropriate;
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College Degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of experience and education;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Inland transportation management and staff supervision;
  • 2 years of experience in the reefer business;
  • Computer literate (AS 400 would be an asset);
  • Bilingualism (English and French).
